Many tire shops offer storage of complete wheel sets – tires mounted on rims. A rim hotel system is essentially an extended tire hotel that also handles rim registration, TPMS sensors and specific requirements for storing alloy rims.
Difference between tire and rim hotels
The principle is the same, but with wheel sets comes more information. You need to register rim type, dimensions, ET value and possibly TPMS sensor IDs in addition to tire information. A good tire hotel system handles both in the same interface.
Registration at check-in
At check-in, each wheel set should receive a unique identifier. Record tread depth on all four tires, rim condition and TPMS status. This information is valuable both for customer service and for identifying upselling opportunities for next season.
Proper wheel set storage
Complete wheel sets are heavier than loose tires and require sturdier racks. Wheel sets with tires should be stored flat or hanging. Avoid stacking too many on top of each other, as the weight can deform the bottom tires.
TPMS handling
More and more cars have TPMS sensors (tire pressure monitoring). When a wheel set with sensors is checked in, the sensor IDs should be recorded in the system. At checkout, the sensors must be programmed to the car. A system that keeps track of this saves time and prevents errors.
Efficient season handling
When the season starts, things move fast. With smart booking and an organized storage, the technician finds the right wheel set in seconds. SMS notifications, online booking and schedule integration ensure smooth flow throughout the season.
